Mike Vrij was born in Holland but left the country in 1939, with the advent of the Second World War. At the young age of seventeen, he arrived in Alberta to live with his father’s brother. He was very fortunate to have left; his own brother was placed in a Concentration Camp by the Nazi Soldiers who invaded Holland. Mike eventually settled outside of Orangeville, Ontario with his wife, to whom he has now been married 54 years. He is now a resident of Markdale, Ontario.
