Sidney was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England to George and Annie (nee Miller) Brown. His father was killed in battle as well, during the First World War in 1918. He was married to Florence Anne Brown, of South Benfleet, Essex, England. He was a truck driver on a farm in Osprey Township when he enlisted on September 11, 1939. He served in Canada, Iceland, and England. He participated in Operation Jubilee, August 18, 1942 on the coast of Dieppe, France. He died during this battle.
